some random information

I have a new longboard. After this post, I will go and edit a spelling mistake I just spotted in the last post. I nearly posted an empty envelope to our plumber today. I have an annoying blister on the end of my tongue, I think I got it after being just too eager for coffee one day last week.

subconscious problem solving

reflection in cafetiere (or however it is spelt)Just now I was watching the washing machine wobble whilst scraping some leftover food into the bin. Two main things were running through my mind:-

1. it’s a pity I haven’t got a big enough garden to start a compost bin
2. I really need to get that washing machine level

meanwhile my subconscious suggests to me that maybe the solution is to use the leftover food to help level the washing machine……

don’t always listen to your subconscious.

Plone 2.1 slides from Europython 2005

Friday, July 8th, 2005

have been posted here. I missed this lecture because I went to one of the python newbie ones running at the same time. I was a bit disappointed that these slides don’t include the tongue-in-cheek anti-marketing slogans that apparently went with them during the actual presentation, such as one that was quoted to me by a colleague afterwards:-

"Plone - better hair than the guys from Perl"

The show must go on

Thursday, July 7th, 2005

I wasn’t sure whether I should write anything about the London bombings, but I guess I will now…. firstly, my severe condolences to anyone affected directly or indirectly and good luck to anyone who now has to recover from physical or emotional injuries caused by the events today.

secondly (and finally, as I was going to relate a load of insignificant technical stuff but it can wait), I have to say how encouraged I felt about hearing how well people in London just got on with things. I’ve heard some incredible stories about the surreal "show must go on" atmosphere in London today. I was initially gobsmacked that people could even consider carrying on working when something as dark as this has happened on their doorstep, but I now feel confident that the terrorists behind this have gained nothing at all (cue overplayed chumbawamba song about booze)…..

plone blogging coincidence

Friday, July 1st, 2005

In the middle of the picture in the last but one post is Nate Aune, of plone4artists and jazkarta, amongst other things.

At the EuroPython conference dinner on tuesday night, Nate came and introduced himself to me. It turns out that shortly after I blogged that post (i.e.while I was also sat in the corridor with my powerbook), the post along with photo appeared in Nates rss reader, where he spotted himself sitting in the corridor. Nate had been subscribed to hypothecate for a while, but didn’t know who I was until then :-) .

PS. Nate, forgot to mention before as we were busy discussing plone video handling - if you hadn’t already spotted it on hypothecate, I have been known to dabble with music, including playing bass guitar in an acid jazz/ soul band a while back. Some of that band are still playing as an instrumental Jazz duo/trio too (no website yet, but i’ll probably knock them up something in the future if they ask me nicely). There’s quite a nice little jazz scene here in Bristol so if you do come over for a plone sprint in the future, be sure to bring the sax!
